Discover Airlines is set to revolutionize in-flight connectivity with the introduction of free and unlimited messaging on its long-haul flights, starting this summer, expected in June. But there’s more on the horizon for travelers: come autumn 2025, the airline will become a trailblazer in the Lufthansa Group and one of the first globally to implement the advanced Panasonic Avionics Wi-Fi system across its long-haul fleet. This new technology promises passengers the ability to browse the web and stream content seamlessly with speeds of up to 200 Mbps, offering an experience similar to 5G connectivity found on the ground.
The upgraded system combines geostationary (GEO) satellites with the latest Eutelsat OneWeb Low Earth Orbit (LEO) network. This hybrid approach not only enhances internet speeds but also drastically reduces latency, ensuring passengers enjoy a smoother, more reliable internet connection throughout their flight.
“The introduction of this new technology is a major step towards an even more digitalized flight experience and is a real upgrade for our guests. In the future, this will also open up opportunities to further personalize the entertainment program and the service on board. We are delighted to be one of the first airlines to use this new technology,” says Bernd Bauer, Chief Executive Officer of Discover Airlines.
“We are proud to partner with Discover Airlines as one of the first multi-orbit customers, enabling them to deliver an exceptional connected experience to the passengers on their A330 fleet. Our multi-orbit network has been meticulously tested and, coupled with Panasonic Avionics’ proven track record and rigorous structure, we are confident it will be a popular choice for airlines going forward,” says John Wade, Vice President of Connectivity at Panasonic Avionics.
Discover Airlines is taking in-flight connectivity to the next level by offering free and unlimited messaging for its passengers. This new feature will allow travelers to stay connected without any extra cost, ensuring that they can communicate throughout their journey.
In addition to messaging, the airline is preparing to launch a variety of high-speed internet packages, available for purchase either prior to departure or during the flight. While specific pricing details are still being finalized, the cost will be in line with Discover Airlines’ current FlyNet® service offerings.

At present, the airline provides internet access through its FlyNet® service, which is on par with the connectivity offered by Lufthansa. What’s more, passengers can use their purchased internet packages across both Discover Airlines and Lufthansa flights, ensuring seamless connectivity no matter where they travel.
