Doha cruise tourism flourish with 6,000 visits in 2 mega ships

Doha Port, the main gateway of Qatar to cruise tourism received the two mega ships, Celebrity Constellation and MSC Lirica yesterday simultaneously for the first time, stressing its capacity to cater to the massive growth of cruise tourism in Qatar.

 

A total of 6,000 visitors were welcomed with open arms by officials from the National Tourism Council (NTC) and Mwani Qatar. Similar dockings are anticipated to happen this season.

 

The successful docking of the two mega ships is the evidence of the enhanced operational efficiencies of Mwani Qatar which is part of the Ministry of Transport and Communications strategic plan along with the high level of synchronization among the NTC, Ministry of Interior and General Authority of Customs to obtain mega cruise ships and make sure smooth disembarkation procedures for their passengers and crew.

 

With 2018/19 cruise season of Qatar well in progress, the tourism sub-sector is going through some of its most crucial developments this year. All through this season, which runs until April 2019, Doha Port is anticipated to get a total of 42 cruise ships carrying more than 140,000 visitors, representing a more than 100% growth on the past season.

 

Jawaher Al Khuzaei, official at NTC, said, “This year’s cruise season brings us closer to our targets for this important tourism sub-sector. The development of Doha Port and its ability to receive two mega ships simultaneously puts us on track to achieve high growth rates in cruise visitor arrivals.”

 

She added, “The NTC continues to implement its strategy through its international agreements with the world’s largest cruise operators to include Qatar on their winter itineraries, while working with our partners locally to develop exciting tourism offerings and experiences that help boost the country’s position as an attractive destination.”
