UP also made its place among the top ten states in terms of foreign tourist arrivals in 2021. The state ranked seventh in the list, accounting for more than 4 per cent of the total foreign tourists.

Mukesh Meshram, Principal Secretary Tourism said that while the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor holds the chief attraction, the Ram Temple in Ayodhya is slated to be the next big thing luring pilgrims. Tourist amenities in Mathura are also getting refurbished in a big way.

Tour operators have opined that UP will no longer be known only for the Taj Mahal.

The number of attractions in the state is increasing, and thus, the tourist footfall is expected to surge soon.

Industry experts and representatives at the UP tourism department said that the numbers speak for the fact that tourism is gradually going back to normal. They also said that the forecasts for the current year specify more development.

The officials also claimed that within a couple of years, UP will become the number one destination in the domestic division.
