The Philippines’ Department of Tourism keeps on doing its marketing and promotional campaigns a month after reopening to foreign leisure travellers. This time, they are setting their eyes on potential visitors from key source market-Japan.
Tourism Secretary Berna Romulo-Puyat headed the Philippine delegation in engaging with all the tourism stakeholders of Japan and encourages the country as a safe destination to visit in the new normal.
Japan has time after time been the fourth-biggest tourism source market of Philippines before the pandemic. In 2019, from Japan, the country recorded 682,788 tourists. Since the reopening of the country last February 10th, as of March 20, 2022, the Philippines welcomed 2,125 leisure travelers from Japan.
During the official trip of the delegation to Japan, Puyat met with Japanese travel agents, tour operators, tourism organizations, and English studies operators, economic federations, along with Japanese media from Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka.
STWorld; Japan Association of Travel Agents; JTB Corp; Japan Travel and Tourism Association; Hankyu Travel International Co., Ltd; Kansai Economic Federation; and the Japan Philippine Tourism Council were some of the noticeable participants.
Puyat emphasized the low Covid-19 cases in the country, the high vaccination rate of tourism workers, compliance with global safety and hygiene protocols, and simplified entry requirements and process among others.
She assured Japanese tourism stakeholders that the DOT will carry on offering marketing effort including that of chartered flights to the Philippines.
Also, Puyat introduced a program to draw Japanese travellers who are fully vaccinated but are yet to receive their booster jabs by providing Covid-19 vaccine booster shots famous tourist destinations in the country. This will help Japanese tourists to return to Japan without undergoing quarantine.
