medical tourismDubai has immense possibility as a world class centre in terms of medical tourism, as per the latest report that reserves it against other significant cities of the world.

The demand related to healthcare services has more than matched population growth for a decade, discloses the Hub Report from property consultants Knight Frank.

Still, Dubai ranks at the low end of a league table that evaluates eight popular medical tourism destinations related to the number of hospital beds for every 1,000 people.

The leader in medical tourism, France, has six times the number of hospital beds in comparison to Dubai while Hong Kong has five and Australia close to three.

At present, Dubai, for every thousand of the population has two beds allotted, a growth of nearly 14 percent ever since 2012, credit goes to the support of the Government in “creating an investor friendly environment”, Knight Frank concludes.

It adds: “Comparing Dubai in terms of number of beds…we see that there is significant potential for growth in the healthcare centre.”

Dubai as a health tourism destination ranks first in the Middle East and North Africa region (MENA) 16th in the world.

Two years back, it lured almost 325,000 medical tourists each year. By 2020 this is anticipated to rise to half a million.

The Hub report says that market demand will be more and more for specialist services, with dearth of experts in areas like diabetes, obesity and high blood pressure.

This medical Hub report is just one of a string to be published by Frank Knight in 2018, with a target of comparing Dubai against seven other important global cities in key sectors.
