In an effort to improve the competitiveness of the city and expand its foreign trade, Dubai is merging its financial and tourism departments under one-roof!
Deputy Ruler Maktoum Bin Mohammed bin Rashid in a series of tweets on Saturday has declared that the Dubai Economic Department and the Department of Tourism and Commerce will be merged under the leadership of Helal al Marri, director general of the Tourism Department
To quote the deputy ruler who is also the finance minister, “During the previous period, the two departments played a pivotal role in establishing Dubai as an economic and tourism capital. The next phase requires high competitiveness for the emirate, which requires full harmony between the two sectors.”
By 2025, Emirates will aspire to attract 25 million tourists, Hamdan bin Mohammed, crown prince of Dubai, mentioned this to his brother’s announcement.
Dubai in 2021 is organizing the World Expo 2020 after it got holdup because of the pandemic. The event is hoped to draw 25 million visitors, in person as well as virtually. In the UAE, on an everyday basis, virus cases have been running below 100 for few weeks now.
Dubai’s media office said in a subsequent tweet that the main objective of the new entity include turning Dubai as one of the top cities in major economic indicators and attracting 100,000 companies in the next three years.
