Tourists arriving in Dubai had spent as much as US$28.5 billion in the year 2016, ranking it the number one in terms of city spending.
Travellers heading to the emirate had spent nearly twice as much as those tourists landing in New York, Singapore and London. The annual MasterCard Destination Cities Index portrays tourists splashing the cash in Dubai much more as it is done in any other part of the world though it had ranked fourth on the list of overnight tourists, behind Paris, London and Bangkok.
Dubai’s fame as the hub of shopping in the Middle East has been confirmed in a table of data that indicated overnight visitor-spending reaching almost US$28.5 billion last year.
New York was placed second in this list where tourists had spent an astonishing US$17.02 billion. And the third place was occupied by London where visitors went on a US$16.09 billion spending spree in the year 2016.
Singapore had comprised the leading four destinations as this city motivated tourists to part with holiday cash worth US$15.69 billion.
This impressive spending spree is estimated to witness a rise by a further 10% in 2017 since a greater number of tourists have been flocking to over 70 malls that are currently open for business.
More attractions are being planned to be opened here later this year to usher in more visitors.
This is inclusive of Dubai Safari, the Dubai Frame and also the 201-metre0high Dubai Eye Wheel that is opening close to Jumeirah Beach Residence. Over half of the cities exhibited in MasterCard’s index report had observed a rise in spending since 2009.
