Dubai is setting an example for places throughout the world by creating strong relationships and sharing best practises, motivating a collective commitment to sustainable tourism.

Dubai prepares to host the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change’s 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28).

As the ‘Year of Sustainability’ in Dubai has been selected for 2023, the city is set to demonstrate its commitment to solving the grave concerns of climate change on a worldwide scale.

COP28 will bring together world leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders from around the world for critical debates and negotiations to influence our planet’s future. As Dubai takes on this critical role, it demonstrates the city’s desire to set a good example and create meaningful change via sustainable practises, new technology, and creative collaborations.

With COP28 approaching, Dubai is not only highlighting its sustainability initiatives, but also providing a venue for international collaboration and information sharing to address today’s most critical environmental concerns.

The ground-breaking Dubai Carbon Calculator, an innovative technology that monitors and records the carbon footprint inside Dubai’s hospitality industry, is central to the Dubai Sustainable Tourism plan.

Dubai Carbon Calculator, which was launched in 2017, enables hotels to precisely measure their carbon emissions, allowing them to uncover cost-saving options and manage their energy, water, and trash use more effectively.

DST’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond measuring carbon footprints. The project requires hotels in Dubai to adhere to the 19 Sustainability Requirements, which include sustainable management practises, performance indicators, energy and water management strategies, guest education, and employee training activities.

By adhering to these guidelines, hotels not only help to conserve the environment, but they also improve their brand value, resource efficiency, and overall competitiveness.

Recognising the importance of cooperation in attaining sustainability goals, DST intends to form alliances with a variety of stakeholders, including Etihad ESCO, Emirates Environmental Group, Emirates Green Building Council, Goumbook, and Emirates Nature WWF.

The project guarantees that hotels and resorts have the required tools and expertise to execute sustainable practises and contribute to Dubai’s sustainability goals through extensive training programmes and educational efforts.
