Dunwoody’s Hotel in North Cairns refurbished after $2.5 million makeover

Dunwoody’s Hotel is going to open today after a $2.5 million makeover. This $2.5 million renovation introduces a new beer garden, and a completely revamped bistro, sports bar and gaming room.

The new beer garden offers access to an indoor-outdoor bar and shaded dining, with two drinking & dining zones. These are to cater for social crowds as well as family groups, with a kids play area. The beer garden and deck are shaded to ensure customers are kept comfortable and cool year-round.

The renovated café and bistro will seat 150 guests. It features a fresh new menu by Executive Chef Dylan Kemp, which offers high quality, fresh and flavourful dishes alongside favourite pub classics.

The star of the menu is the Grill, which offers six steaks, including the signature 40 day dry aged 300gm porterhouse, from the new, in-house dry ager.

The signature steak is Yardstick, 150-day grain fed and served with roasted marrow, pickled shallot and parsley, hand cut chips and choice of sauce.  Alongside the grill offering, the menu includes snacks and starters designed to share, salads, burgers and sandwiches, mains and desserts.

A new stage in the bistro will allow the venue to offer entertainment throughout the week, including weekly trivia & bingo, party bands on Friday nights, soloists & duos on Saturdays and soulful jazz and blues to round out the weekend on Sundays. Every month, Dunwoodys will host Drag Trivia, starting from Thursday 26 May.

Dunwoody’s will continue to proudly support the Young Animal Protection Society through a weekly donation of $1 from every parmi sold every Wednesday. YAPS is a local charity animal refuge that rescues abandoned dogs and cats in the Cairns area.

This new renovation has created a number of new jobs at the pub, with career opportunities available for experienced hospitality professionals, as well as a number of jobs for those new to the industry, with no experience required.

Dunwoody’s Venue Manager Jason Finlayson is excited to soon re-open to locals.

Dunwoody’s is operated by Australian Venue Co. and COO Craig Ellison is thrilled that the landmark venue is being refreshed.
