Durban ICC aims to become the world’s leading convention centre

Durban ICC or the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre is planning to clinch the title of the world’s best convention centre at the World Travel Awards as it is the only convention centre in Africa nominated for the title of the World’s Leading Meetings & Conference Centre 2021.

Lindiwe Rakharebe, Chief Executive, Durban ICC said that the convention centre had worked diligently to reduce the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and maintain business continuity as far as was possible under the circumstances. She mentioned that the Durban ICC met all its performance targets and exceeded targets in many instances.

She also mentioned that the centre is thrilled to have been nominated as it affirms the commitment to world-class service excellence and being the only convention centre nominated for the category in Africa makes it all the more exciting. She mentioned that the centre is hoping to win the global award in this category as it will raise Durban’s destination profile for business tourism and will help the Durban ICC to attract more international events to the city.

She also stated that it will create more jobs and generate positive economic impact for KwaZulu-Natal and South Africa. According to Rakharebe, winning awards is a visible demonstration of all the behind-the-scenes hard work from the Durban ICC teams and people whose focus is to continuously provide world-class customer service to clients, both local and international.

She mentioned that the close-knit team strives to maintain the Durban ICC’s strong inherent culture of warmth and hospitality that it is known for and strives to ensure that each guest leaves the Durban ICC happy and satisfied with the service received.

The Durban ICC has been nominated in the World Travel Awards – Africa’s Leading Meetings and Conference Centre 20 times and has been voted the winner in this category nearly 17 times in the past.The winners of this year will be unveiled at WTA’s Grand Final Gala Ceremony 2021, which will take place in Moscow, Russia, on November 26, 2021.
