Earthquake of 5.0 magnitude hits Jammu & Kashmir, no casualty as yet

Jammu quakeJammu and Kashmir, India was struck by an earthquake of magnitude 5.0 on Thursday. No loss of life or damage to properties has been reported due to the natural calamity, as yet.

 

An official of Indian Meteorological Department said that a moderate intensity quake measuring 5.0 on Richter occurred around 2.28 a.m. with its epicenter in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.

 

Kashmir is located in a highly sensitive seismological area and temblors have caused a great deal of damage to this part of the world, in the past.

 

Over 80,000 people here died in a massive earthquake that had struck both Kashmir and Pakistan occupied parts of Kashmir on 8th October, 2005. The magnitude of the 2005 quake was 7.6 on the Richter scale.
