The decision was taken on Thursday (16 June) during a meeting between Egyptian prime minister Moustafa Madbouly and members of the country’s Supreme Committee for the Management of the Epidemiology and Health Pandemic Crisis, according to a number of local and international press reports.

Previously, all travellers arriving in Egypt were required to present a negative PCR test taken no more than 72 hours before arrival, unless fully vaccinated.

The UK Foreign Office is yet to update its own entry requirement advice.

Peter Kearns, executive director of specialist tour operator Red Sea Holidays, said the company was “delighted” with the rule change.

He said that they have seen a steady increase in bookings ahead of the summer period and they hope to see this trend continue with the removal of all COVID-related entry requirements.

Wearing of face masks at all of their properties, onboard their Nile cruise ships and on their excursions is no longer mandatory, and is also optional in public spaces across the country, added Kearns.

Their teams on the ground continue to work hard to ensure that all of their guests feel COVID-safe and look forward to welcoming back visitors from the UK.
