Emergency landing of a British Airways flight to Heathrow

After a British Airways flight BA548 took off normally from Heathrow to Rome’s Fiumicino airport before 9 am it turned around soon.

 

Shortly after the Airbus A321 had crossed the channel coast ay Dungeness after less than 20 minutes, the crew squawked 7700 which is an international code meaning an emergency to air traffic controllers.

 

After circling over the English Channel the aircraft returned to Heathrow and was given the priority clearance to land at British Airways’ main base.

 

A BA spokesperson apologized for the delay in their customers’ travel plans after their aircraft had to return to Heathrow due to the precaution issued after a minor technical issue.

 

The customers were looked after by the teams on the grown while they were sourcing another aircraft so that they could continue their journey.

 

It is expected that the passengers will arrive in Rome five hours late and the London-bound travellers were also delayed.
