Emirates to delay regular operations till July

Emirates has confirmed that it will not resume regular flight operations anytime before the month of July. After suspending operations in March for two weeks, the airline was only running a skeleton schedule. Regular flights were expected to arrive before the end of May, as announced earlier. The plan has now been shifted further to July.

In light of the coronavirus pandemic, United Arab Emirates closed its borders on March 20. Following the closure and international travel ban, Emirates was forced to suspend all operations entirely. However, it was running various flights to rescue citizens to and from the UAE.

Starting April 8, the carrier flew several flights a week to destinations such as London, Paris, Frankfurt, Zurich, and Manila in order to return travelers stranded abroad back to their homeland. According to the previous plan, normal flight operations were set to begin before the end of May.

As the world continues to battle the coronavirus disease, travel restrictions around the world remains a constant forcing the airline to delay regular operations at least till July 1. The future still remains uncertain and with many countries discussing to close their borders for most of the summer period, Emirates may be forced to push the date back once again.

The airline will be back with various safety measures after resuming operations. Emirates said in a recent press statement that post resuming operations all cabin crew, boarding agents and ground staff in direct contact with passengers will now own personal protective equipment like masks, gowns, gloves, and safety visors.

The carrier has also removed all in-flight reading materials and restricted carry-on items to prevent the spread of germs. Emirates is also making it mandatory for all passengers to wear a mask and use gloves from the moment they check-in until they disembark the plane. All aircraft are also being disinfected regularly at Dubai airport.
