The Airbus A320 Neo airplane that was powered by a Pratt & Whitney engine had landed with a loud thud at Bambolin airport around 9.10 p.m.
All the passengers were safe, they said.
A spokesperson of the airline said that GoAir flight G8645 (Kochi-Mumbai) had been diverted to Goa on account of a technical snag. All the 166 passengers had to be deplaned. The person went on to state that the matter is currently being investigated.
The flight’s commander sought an emergency landing in Goa once it developed a technical issue, as per the account of one of the passengers on board the flight.
When the flight landed in Goa, it was discovered that the issue was engine-related.
The flight had been scheduled to take off from Kochi around 7.20 p.m. but it took off around 8.20, he said.
The Wadia Group-promoted budget airline GoAir has already ended up grounding two A320 aircrafts following P&W issues.
DGCA who is the aviation regulator had asked engine maker Pratt & Whitney to fix the snags inside its engines powering Airbus 320 neo planes that were operated by IndiGo and GoAir within a ‘specified time’.
