It’s launched to support the recovery of the post-pandemic travel and tourism sector of the state. Almost $14.25 million in federal COVID-19 revival funding will be competitively sub-awarded to the Destination Marketing Organizations of the state for marketing efforts that would help in drawing visitors to the New York state by advertising tourism programs based on the Division of Tourism’s EDA areas of focus like international tourism, outdoor recreation, and the MICE or meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions, along with amateur sports and group travel.

Hope Knight, ESD President, CEO and Commissioner, said that the administration of Gov. Kathy Hochul along with the support of his colleagues in the federal government, the state of New York carries on rebuilding its tourism. ESD will support the initiations by the regional tourism partners in generating greater number of visitation followed by revenue in areas all prepared for growth and development, renewing this essential sector of the state.

A press release noted that the prime goal of the program is to impact the tourism industry of New York positively by making planned investments in programs and the organizations in the NY state that are working to produce monetary growth for the US state and its holiday spots. Through the competitive grant process of the program, ESD will make sure that funding is impact-driven.
