This is according to the European Tourism 2017 – Trends & Prospects report from the European Travel Commission (ETC). The report stated that regional expansion was driven by two main factors – economic growth in major markets, and the continuing recovery of markets that had previously seen a slowdown due to security concerns. Nearly every monitored destination saw at least some increase in tourist arrivals, with over half seeing growth of 10 per cent or over.
“The uptick in the global economy paves the way to recalibrate European and national policy to support the drivers of tourism growth, promote long-term sustainable development and be a more effective catalyst for job creation in Europe,” remarked ETC Executive Director Eduardo Santander.
