Events held to commemorate World Tourism Day in Varanasi

A sequence of events was held by different institutions and organizations for commemorating the World Tourism Day on September 27.

A whole day national seminar on ‘Re-thinking Tourism’ was held by the Tourism and Hospitality division, department of History of Arts, Banaras Hindu University.

The Vice-chancellor of MSD State University, Azamgarh, Professor P.K. Sharma said that tourism has the possibility of propelling economic development and changing the lives of people and India, being strong in terms of multiplicity, culture and heritage, and it can benefit significantly from that.

In post-Covid times, these strengths can play a major role in revitalizing the tourism industry. Professor Sharma urged the students of Tourism and Hospitality Management to be prepared for the future and hone their skills.

During the event, the BHU registrar Professor Arun Kumar Singh said that the Indian society has always been warm about visitors and guests are treated here with much respect and admiration.

Tourism is a wonderful way to display India’s rich heritage, beliefs and diversity and to capitalize its benefits. The event was also attended by the Director of the Inter University Center for Teacher Education, Professor PN Singh, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Professor VB Singh, Course Coordinator, Professor ON Singh among others.

The Varanasi Tourism Guild organized a Pad Yatra or marching in several localities in the morning to spread consciousness about tourism. It was followed by a cultural and felicitation programme during the afternoon.
