EventWell, a charitable social enterprise which educates and campaigns for better mental health and wellbeing in the events industry, recently announced that Event Wellbeing Week will be celebrated as Event Wellbeing Month for the year as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on the events industry. The celebration will commence from September 1.

Event Wellbeing Week was first launched in 2017 as a platform for individuals and businesses in the events industry to come together to campaign and advocate for better mental health and wellbeing for all. For the year, the “EventWell20” campaign aims to educate on the importance of a commitment to providing better support for employees and talent and to make a positive change to workplace culture and mental health. It will also aim to educate on the importance of self-care and building resilience as creative professionals to better manage stress, drive productivity and creativity and stay event well.

The celebrations would be divided across four weeks of the month of September and each week will see a series of events, podcasts, activities and blogs dedicated to getting a better night’s sleep, highlighting the importance of exercise, ensuring healthy diets and showing businesses and individuals how to take action to tackle poor mental health in the creative, event, hospitality and travel industry.

Helen Moon, CEO, EventWell, said in a press statement that 2020 has been an extremely challenging year for that industry and hence it was felt that the yearly September campaign week would just not be long enough. She shared that as a part of the 9 days of action all event businesses would be encouraged to sign the EventWell Manifesto as it is important to take a step as an industry and a real commitment to positive culture change for the benefit of all.

Louise Warren, COO and Co-founder of EventWell17, added that given the present challenges faced by the industry there has never been a more important time to talk about mental health and wellbeing. He shared that many industry professionals are currently facing trauma and real challenges and difficulties, due to redundancy, closure of businesses and venues. He mentioned that the aim not of the celebrations is not limited to the month of September, but for always, and to provide not only help and support but to encourage further education and thought leadership for the industry.
