Extreme cold triggers chaos in Canada airports

canada airportSome of the important airports of Canada have been witnessing lengthy de-icing processes, along with the missing crew members that triggered widespread chaos at these airports as a number of flights had been delayed or cancelled out of the country’s biggest city Toronto.

 

A deep freeze had settled over various portions of the United States and Canada ushering in extreme cold and icy conditions.

 

From the early hours of New Year’s Day, Air Canada had warned that holiday could be hectic.

 

Moreover it also issued a travel alert for passenger utilizing airports in Calgary, Montreal, Toronto and Ottawa and waiving the usual fee for ticket changes. As the day continued, the delays mounted.

 

And, the take-off delays were about four to five hours as per the data collected from airport websites.

 

In Toronto the situation was aggravated by the snow conditions and by 20.30 GMT as many as 500 flights had to be cancelled or delayed as per FlightAware, a flight tracker.

 

Passengers enquired for help and vented out their frustration on social media platforms.

 

WestJet said that it had to cancel a flight due to a shortage issue of crews.
