Ezhumanthuruth is quite eager to position itself on the world tourism map. It’s a quaint village close to Kallara in Kottayam. Now, this picturesque hamlet is all set to welcome tourists.
The Responsible Tourism (RT) Mission, Kerala, recently is set to transpire special tourism package for villages only, which visualizes a ride along the Kariyar stream on board the shikara boats managed by the Ezhumanthuruthu Tourism Club. To various tourism units that are managed by the RT Mission through Ezhumanthuruth and Mundar, these boats will carry the visitors to those units and offer them a chance to witness rural life through ethnic cuisine and cultural programs.
The visitors will get an opportunity to cook ethnic cuisine all on their own and try a hand in local handicrafts like coir spinning, mat weaving or even fishing.
According to K. Rupesh Kumar, coordinator, RT Mission, the package allows travelers to take part in local affairs massively and is keen to maintain a balance between the guests and the local community. The development of village tourism is hoped to raise the length of visitor stay and thus benefit the state’s hospitality sector.
Besides Ezhumanthuruth, the local bodies of Neendoor and Arpookkara too have kick-started similar programs to make sure a place on the global tourism map.
