Representatives Ro Khanna, Zoe Lofgren, Anna Eshoo, and Jimmy Panetta have announced that the Federal Aviation Administration will provide $3,334,533 to San José Mineta International Airport for zero-emission vehicles through the Airport Improvement Program.San José Mayor Matt Mahan and SJC Airport Director John Aitken joined in celebrating this funding.
Reps. Khanna, Lofgren, Eshoo and Panetta said that investing in clean transportation enables them to lower emissions, enhance efficiency, and work towards achieving the climate goals. He says, We applaud the Federal Aviation Administration for granting $3,334,533 to the San José Mineta International Airport, which will be used to obtain new electric buses. We thank SJC Airport Director John Aitken for his commitment to sustainability and serving our community in Santa Clara County”.
Mayor Matt Mahan expressed his gratitude to their federal partners for their strategic investment, which accelerates their efforts to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030. He adds, “The work we do to reach our climate goals takes all of us and will benefit all of us for generations to come.”
“We sincerely appreciate our local congressional delegation’s continued advocacy for funding San José Mineta International Airport’s sustainability initiatives,” said John Aitken, SJC Airport Director. He further adds that this is a remarkable example of our elected leaders collaborating to promote sustainability and deliver long-term benefits to the community. With this grant, SJC plans to acquire four electric buses as part of our continuous initiative to replace our natural gas fleet, aligning with California’s shift towards zero-emission vehicles in the coming years.
