Preliminary statistics point to the fact that in 2021, Christmas holiday tourist numbers coming to Lapland and the Kuusamo region is probably to reach pre-Covid levels.

In Kuusamo, Sian Porter came to London with her family to spend Christmas time. Being fully vaccinated, now travel is not a matter of concern.

“We are not afraid of the coronavirus. We are trying to get back to normal, but we are trying to do so safely. You never know,” says Porter.

Like many Europeans, Sian is also flying to northern Finland on holiday as chartered flights have restarted their services after the break caused by the pandemic.

First round reservations have been made for the charter flight arrival from all over Europe to the northern region of Kuusamo as well as airports in Finnish Lapland during Christmas.

In Europe, contained travel demand is now being shown in the fact that even more charter flights to Kuusamo are being expected during the Christmas period.

Even though in Europe, including Finland, the recent coronavirus variant is being diagnosed. Now, tourists who have landed in northern Finland do not seem to be frightened to explore Europe.

In Kuusamo, Finland, all charter flight passengers are being required to present valid documentation that would show that they have received two vaccinations of the coronavirus.

Sian Porter and her family members being from the UK will also have to be tested for the virus within two days of returning to their home country.
