Domestic flight NH 501 from Osaka Itami in central Japan to Miyazaki was to be served by the captain.
The crew member of ANA Wings, an affiliate airline of ANA, during a pre-boarding inspections was alcohol positive.This resulted in the airline to switch crew which caused a total of five delays.
As per the local newspaper the crew member had alcohol with his co-pilot at the hotel, however he claimed that he did not have a drink in the 12 hours before the departure time.
The ANA’s existing regulation mentions that a crew cannot drink in the 12 hours before a flight.
Guidelines surrounding alcohol consumption was introduced in November that stated two units cannot be consumed before the 12-hour curfew. The crew were provided with a portable breathalysers to check their alcohol levels before a flight.
The airline will be implementing measures to stop this type of incident.Earlier a Japanese pilot for Japan Airlines was jailed for being drunk almost 10 times over the alcohol limit.
A long serving cabin crew member failed two breathalyzer in December mentioned the Japan Airlines during a flight from Tokyo to Hawaii.
