Travel plans for passengers from Delhi to Kolkata on Vistara flight UK 707 went up in smoke when a passenger started to smoke and refused to give it up – causing a delay by three hours for fellow passengers.

As per the airline officials a male passenger started smoking as the plane was pulling away from the gate. The crew members instructed him to stop immediately, as it is illegal to smoke on domestic flights in India. However, when the unruly passenger refused, the captain had to call for the plane to return to the gate. The smoking passenger was removed for not complying with air safety rules. The incident caused the flight to be delayed over three hours.

Vistara officials said that they regret the delay. The captain issued a warning letter and the passenger was offloaded when he denied to stop smoking.

Incidentally the same plane had to turn around during the Delhi-to-Amritsar route journey when a passenger wanted to be offloaded with his family due to a personal emergency. Even in this incident, flight was delayed for hours.

Security and safety of the passengers took precedence over punctuality for flight service. Nevertheless, it is proved that smoking is bad not only for the smoker but also for people around.
