For Costa Rica, Cartago would be the latest tourist attraction

To quote Mariam Álvarez, coordinator of the Sustainable Tourism Management career at TEC, “The idea is that when a national or foreign tourist asks: What should I know in this Central American country? Cartago and the Los Santos Area are among the sites chosen with the highest rate of visitation.” This will be done via the Development Strategy of the tourist ring of the province of Cartago and Los Santos.

The Development Strategy reacts to an articulated work between 23 institutions like municipalities, business chambers, public entities, and community and university sectors, among others, that look for publicizing the natural, cultural and gastronomic wealth of different cantons of the province.

But how it works?
The Strategy has three parts: Firstly, areas all tourist services are counted; then, thematic routes are drawn and lastly, it is likely to have an app, helping tourists.

Accounting of tourist services
The strategy is in the first stage during this time where in each canton it’s being recorded what tourist services are there. For instance hotels, spaces for hiking and enjoying nature, restaurants, historic centers, conditions of public roads, among others. “For us it is very important to publicize what we are doing, because we need more actors to join this effort,” said the teacher.

Routes are designed
Once all the cantons and areas of Cartago and Los Santos have been counted, routes will be traced. Each route will provide a tour of towns that share certain attractions. Thus the visitor lives a thematic experience.
