Venice from the summer of 2022 has plans to charge visitors for access and set entrance quotas, as per the recent reports. Reportedly, those who are interested to come to this well-known destination will have to reserve access in advance from 2022; also, at the main access points turnstiles will also be installed of the historical city centre.

Measures to manage tourist numbers arriving in the city have been debatable for years. However, the travel scenario became dark with the pandemic, which in 2020temporarily stopped all arrivals in the city. In 2021, as countries are now slowly easing down travel restrictions, and travel slowly making its way back, now discussions are back on the table in terms of global tourism hotspots, and making initiations toward limiting mass arrivals and developing the quality of the experience for both residents and visitors.

Italy in July banned large cruise ships from sailing through the historic centre of the city and managed to avoid being put on the danger list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Entry into Venice might cost anything from 3 euros ($3.5) to 10 euros, as per the reports, which will depend on the season and on how many tourists are expected on that day. However, relatives of residents, locals, and tourists who have booked a stay in a Venice hotel will not be charged from the entry fee.
