The tourism officials of Prince Edward Island has published June figures, highlighting industry’s best June ever recorded and stressing to a likely record-breaking season for this year.
The main statistics of room nights sold, rounds of golf, and bookings related to campground site were all at the higher position compared to 2019, the last year for record-breaking tourism for P.E.I., one year before the pandemic hit and kept visitors confined at home.
The CEO of the Tourism Industry Association of P.E.I., Corryn Clemence, said that they all were aware that demand was going to come back in a strong way. It started earlier than they would see, usually and she thinks that it was the pent-up demand of remaining confined and not being able to go anywhere and explore for few years.
People were desperate to get going. So, it was good to see them start their season in advance.
The best comparison is looking at the numbers in June 2022 against those of June 2019. This June, total room nights sold were 83,630, compared to 75,433 during the same time 2019.
In June 2022, golf rounds sold exceeded the same month three years before by over 7,000.
And campground sites sold increased over 2,400 from earlier three years.
Another figure here is showing an upturn. For the season, the number of available room nights reflects how many operators opened up. At the start of the pandemic, that capacity shrunk by about a quarter.
