On this Saturday, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development or EBRD, has signed a memorandum of understanding or MoU. This would help establish a sector skills council (SCC) together with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the Egyptian Tourism Federation or ETF along with the EBRD Shareholder Special Fund and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).

This declaration was made at a press conference while introducing the joint country strategy between Egypt and the EBRD for 2022-2027. This new public-private affiliation and policy dialogue platform will build up skill-gap scrutiny; make new strategies for skill development, qualification frameworks, and occupational skill standards. Also, it will offer pertinent training related to the hospitality and tourism sector which would help to develop skilled labour market and opening up more employment opportunities for the people working in tourism-related sectors. The tourism sector is a fundamental contributor to the financial growth of the country.

For the SSC, the parties involved will build up a comprehensible mandate along with an operational plan with a list of the 20 most relevant occupational standards for tourism. To the SSC partners in government, enterprise, and training, capacity-building support will also be provided.

In the SSC, representatives from hotels, restaurants, as well as tour guides will play an important role to guarantee market relevance and private-sector input into skills governance.
