The P.E.I. government is launching once again an incentive that would encourage people to stay in the hotels of the Island this spring 2022.

A $100 Food Island gift card is being offered by the Tourism Accommodation Accelerator Program to the qualifying guests of the hotel which can be redeemed at local restaurants, attractions, crafts and retail outlets.

“We saw such great success with this program last year, and we’re excited to bring it back,” said Matthew MacKay, Minister of Economic Growth, Tourism and Culture. “People are ready to travel again, and Prince Edward Island is ready to welcome back visitors to enjoy our world-class hospitality we’re so well known for.”

Around 226 accommodation operators took part in the program in 2021, mentioned John Cudmore, the president of the Hotel Association of P.E.I. and general manager of The Holman Grand Hotel in downtown Charlottetown.

“It really drove business to our hotel, just by giving people that extra incentive to come. We used it to try and get people to stay the second night because you stay two nights, you get the $100 card. If you stay one night, you don’t. It’s a great contribution towards your expenses.”
