In a bid to find out new ways to revitalize the tourism sector, one of the most highly-affected industries in the world, the Tamil Nadu state government has developed a 16-member committee. This committee will devise a post-Covid-19 recovery plan. Also, for tourists, the committee will come up with SoPs in the state.

The committee has members from the state government departments of tourism, museum, art and culture, HR&CE, public health, archaeology, and representatives from Travel Agents Association of India, Indian Association of Tour Operators, Tmil Nadu Travel Mart, Taamil Nadu Tour Travel and Hospitality Association, South India MICE Association, FICCI and CII.

V K T Balan of Tamil Nadu Tour Travel and Hospitality Association has explained that revival of tourism would assist the financial condition of the state in return.

To quote him, “To revive tourism we should show that we have vaccinated all who are working in the sector. Target vaccinate the five lakh people who work in the sector, including drivers, hotel staff, guides, in two to three weeks and then showcase it to the world so that tourists will be confident to visit Tamil Nadu. This should be the priority. We will be suggesting this to the government,” he said.

He has also added that it was the best move by the state government to set up the committee for tourism recovery.
