Foreign tourist arrivals rise by 26.66% in Jakarta

JakartaSuhariyanto, who is the chairman of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) said that the foreign tourist arrivals in May 2017 in Jakarta had hit the 1.16 million mark.


This figure marked an increase as compared to April 2017 or 26.66% as compared to May 2016.


In a press release Suhariyanto told a press conference that this growth in visitor arrivals represents quite an encouraging trend since the numbers have been growing consistently month-over-month. In the period between January and May, the foreign visitor arrivals had touched 5.36 million.


According to the official data from BPS, the figure marked a 20.85 rise as compared to the data from January-May 2016. During this time, the foreign tourist arrivals had touched the 4.43 million mark.


Suhariyanto also mentioned that the highest rise was witnessed in Sam Ratulangi Airport, Manado.


As compared to May 2016, the number of tourists arriving at this airport had risen by 449.02%. He went on to add that increase can be attributed to the opening of direct flights from Manado to Chinese cities.


BPS revealed that the foreign tourists arriving in Indonesia through 19 important arrival points in May 2017 touched the 963,310 mark, marking a 11.31% increase as compared to May 2016.


The number of foreign visitor arrivals outside of 19 major arrival junctions had touched 195,890 or a 293.47% rise as compared to May 2016.


By nationality, tourist visits were dominated mainly by the Chinese with 152,910 arrivals or 13.19% of total tourist visits.
