Four Seasons Resort Hualalai welcomes back the IRONMAN World Championships in Kona with an exclusive Evening of Champions dinner event at the luxury Resort. On October 12, 2019, Kona will once again host the top triathletes in the world as they race in the sport’s most iconic event. Kona has been home to the IRONMAN World Championship since 1978, making this annual event a defining part of the destination.
2019 marks the 30th anniversary of the renowned “Ironwar” between six-time IRONMAN World Champion Dave Scott and six-time IRONMAN World Champion Mark Allen. The two decorated triathletes are joined by two-time triathlon Olympic Gold Medallist Alistair Brownlee for an all-star panel of heavyweights in the sport. Scott and Allen will comment on Ironwar, a race still talked about today as one of the greatest in history. Brownlee, as he prepares to race a few days later, shares his insight on the evolution of the sport.
The fourth annual Evening of Champions event will be held at Four Seasons Resort Hualalai on Thursday, October 10, 2019 from 5:30 to 8:30 pm and will be open to Resort guests and triathlon enthusiasts alike. The night will begin with a reception and meet and greet with Dave Scott, Mark Allen, and Allister Brownlee featuring light bites, wine and beer. The family-style dinner features local ingredients created by the team of Four Seasons chefs. The highlight of the night features Bob Babbitt, acclaimed triathlon sports reporter and Triathlon Hall of Fame inductee, leading a behind-the-scenes discussion with the three athletes.
“Mark and I were battling in Kona during the 80s, culminating in one of the closest races in history thirty years ago,” states Dave Scott. “The 1989 race was decided during the final steps of the marathon and this race has gone down as one of the most exciting duels ever during IRONMAN history. Mark and I will give you the insight on this record smashing day plus share some of our earlier races in our triathlon history. Our stories, shared with the brilliant moderator Bob Babbitt, will segue into the double Gold Medallist and wild card for this year’s event, the UK’s Alistair Brownlee. Confidence, brashness and an uncanny ability to psychologically and physically dismantle his competition, Alistair is stepping into his debut in Kona as one of the top three favourites. Hear his insight and prognosis for what will be a historic 2019 race.”
Four Seasons Resort Hualalai has had a five year partnership with Dave Scott, who regularly hosts his signature Triathlon Training Experiences at the Resort four times each year. Scott is a legend in the sport of triathlon, and was the first person to be inducted into the Triathlon Hall of Fame. Known simply as “The Man,” Scott is recognised as one of the greatest triathletes of all time.
In addition to curating this annual evening at the Resort, Dave Scott announced he will continue his successful Triathlon Training Experience at Four Seasons Resort Hualalai for the fifth year in a row. Dates for this intimate and results-driven experience are January 20-24, May 25-29, and July 27-31, 2020.
The Evening of Champions dinner is USD 225 per person and can be booked online.
