Frankfurt Airport has decided that its Northwest Runway (07L/25R) is ready to resume operations once again starting Wednesday, July 8. According to the planning figures of the European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation (Eurocontrol) the usage of the runway would be necessary to ensure stable flight operations at Frankfurt Airport.

The reopening of the airport will be beneficial for the forthcoming summer holiday season. Fraport has already mentioned that a significant increase in movements at the airport has been noticed as compared to the months of April and May. The runway has not been in use ever since it closed down on March 23 due to the COVID-19 outbreak, airline suspensions and decreased passenger demand. At present the airport serves as a parking area for wide body aircraft.

However, it has also been informed that Runway 18 West will remain closed until further notice as of now. Meanwhile, all passenger handling processes will continue to be concentrated in FRA’s Terminal 1 as it is being done at the moment. Frankfurt Airport has been ready to step up flight operations since mid-May and has implemented extensive anti-infection measures in the areas currently in use in Terminal 1 in accordance to all regulations and protocols from health authorities.
