From January to July 3 this year, 1.06 crore tourists visit J&K

From January to July 3 this year, around 1.06 crore tourists visited Jammu and Kashmir, said Nityanand Rai, the Union Minister of State for Home in Rajya Sabha.


Replying to questions in the House, the minister said that since 2019, almost 30,000 people have been employed in the public sector in Jammu and Kashmir.


Mr. Rai said that in the course of the present calendar year, i.e. from January 2022 till July 3, 2022, the tourist influx in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir went up considerably and is projected to be around 1,06,24,000.


Mr. Rai did not clearly state whether the sum of tourists comprises pilgrims who visited Vaishno Devi Temple and Amarnath Cave.


He said that 75 unconventional destinations have been recognized for tourism purposes across Jammu and Kashmir.
With the aim of attracting private investors from across India to capitalize on tourism setup, the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Policy 2020 has been informed and tourism has been given the position of industry for encouraging investment, said the minister.


Responding to questions, the minister said that special employment rules have been made and many departmental rules have been revised to quicken the practice of employment in a transparent and timely fashion.


From the year 2019, employments in the public sector have been carried out onwards totaling 29,806.
