The tourism minister of Spain has said that Ibiza will be able to “reopen safely” as of June, 2021.

The Spanish government in March had declared that a vaccine passport will be introduced that will allow tourists to enter Spain including Ibiza and the Balearic Islands. By June, the vaccine passport would be operational. The general secretary of Digital Health, Information and Innovation, Spain, has unveiled that recently-developed COVID-19 passports, formally identified as Digital Green Certificates, will let the EU residents to enter the country without testing or quarantine for coronavirus.

The certificate, which would act as a digital QR code, is hoped to be operational by June. It would suggest on the immunity status of the holder – i.e. vaccinated, recently tested negative, or recently recovered.

Just after the statement, the tourism minister of Spain, Reyes Maroto, stated in a press conference that the certificates would allow the country to “reopen safely” and be “pioneers” in world tourism following the pandemic, and offering “safe mobility” for tourists.

In Spain, tourism is one of the important industries, particularly in Ibiza. Evrey year, Spain welcomes roughly 80 millions tourists with the industry providing more than 12% of the GDP of the country.

Ibiza club Amnesia earlier this year had declared about its closing party for the 2021 season, prepared to take place on October 23rd. It’s the first superclub in Ibiza to confirm that it would host events this year, and has decided on to declare its season of parties in reverse order as a precautionary measure. The club has mentioned in an official announcement that it is “presenting the end but leaving the start open”.

Ibiza has been immensely affected by the ill-impacts of coronavirus. Frequent restriction changes, extortionate fines and bans on dancing, parties and smoking have impacted the music and hospitality industries in a tremendous manner. Though it has hit the locals hard, the suspension in summer season has also given time for a rearrangement of everything and for the White Isle to regenerate. Last year, Anu Shukla travelled to Ibiza to investigate.
