At last, India has raised its ban on scheduled international commercial flights after remaining closed for almost two years. After the outbreak of the pandemic in March, 2020, the country had temporarily suspended all international flights. According to a declaration made by the Civil Aviation Ministry, India at present has taken the decision to raise the ban after having recognised the increased vaccination coverage worldwide.
March 27th, 2022, will be the date when this ban will be raised, as per government decision. To quote the Civil Aviation Ministry as reported, “After having recognized the increased vaccination coverage across the globe and in consultation with the stakeholders, the Government of India has decided to resume scheduled commercial international passenger services to/from India from 27.03.2022, i.e. start of Summer Schedule 2022.”
Since July 2020, India had air bubble arrangements. India under this scheme has tied up with selected countries, and operated flights in each other’s territories. According to Jyotiraditya Scindia, the Civil Aviation Minister, air bubble arrangements will get annulled from March 27th.
Nevertheless, the reopening of international flights is not unwilling to follow the guidelines. The international operations need to follow all guidelines as issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, as per the Civil Aviation Ministry.
