Fiji welcomed 119,000 foreign tourists

From the time Fiji reopened its international border, i.e. December 2021, this country in South Pacific has received over 119,000 foreign tourists, on Sunday, Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama declared about this.


Bainimarama explained that Fiji in April 2022, received more than 46,000 visitors. This has brought the total arrivals in 2022 to over 95,000, as quoted by the PM to Xinhua news agency.


For the meantime, the Permanent Secretary for Trade and Tourism, Fiji, Shaheen Ali, explained that the statistics in April showed almost 61 per cent of arrivals which was at par with the pre-Covid levels.


Fiji is hoped to receive 447,000 tourists in 2022, as per the government.


Fiji’s tourism industry accounts around 35 per cent of the country’s gross domestic product. The sector employs roughly 150,000 people in Fiji. It’s the backbone of the economy of this island and one of the biggest foreign exchange earners.


Prior to the pandemic, Fiji received over 800,000 visitors every year.
