The G-20 meeting cannot be held in Bihar’s Nalanda in spite of its magnificent history, since the traditional city does not have tourism arrangements and airport, said G Kishan Reddy, the Union minister of culture and tourism. The minister although added that adequate preparations would be made for the delegates if they are intent to visit Nalanda.

Currently, the University in the city is UNESCO World Heritage site. However, in spite of the celebrated history of Nalanda, the G-20 conference which is scheduled in Bihar as well, cannot be held in Nalanda, said Minister Reddy at the 4th convocation of the NavNalanda Mahavihar, which is a deemed university at Nalanda.

The minister said that the G-20 meeting would be organized in Patna. If the delegates are interested, special provisions would be made for them so that they can visit Nalanda.

Nalanda has been known for a long time as the land of understanding and erudition and has been popular chiefly for its ancient Nalanda University.

Practically 200 G-20 meetings have been scheduled at 56 places in India including Bihar this year. These meetings are predictable to be joined by more than one lakh delegates from abroad.
