“GAP Tour,” which is inclusive of seven cities in Turkey’s southeast, will now be known as “Mesopotamian Tour” for boosting tourism. This was said by a marketing planencouraged by the “Cappadocia Tour” in the Central Anatolian region, according to a top local tourism chief.

Silkroad Development Agency (İKA) head BurhanAkyılmazsaid that Turkey’s southeastern provinces werepromoted with the wrong name of ‘GAP Tour’ for many years.

“GAP Tour” presents a tourism package that comprises trips to the southeastern provinces of Gaziantep, Adıyaman, Şanlıurfa, Mardin, Batman, Siirt and Diyarbakır.

People who do not know the region thought of the ‘GAP Tour’ as a technical surveillance trip, thinking that they would visit lakes, dams, or infrastructure projects, saidAkyılmaz. He opined that this was indeed a bad marketing of the region.
However, he said that now they are promoting the region with a ‘Mesopotamian tour’ label in its place.

Cappadocia is an ancient region located within six Central Anatolian provinces, and it is the main cause of this change.
Nevsehir, Ürgüp or Görememight not meanmuch to anyone. However, when one says ‘Cappadocia Tour,’ it is known clearly by all tourists and travel agencies around the world.

Akyılmazsaid that they are following the same strategy like Turkey’s southeast and are promoting all provinces under a ‘Mesopotamian Tour’ label.”

İKAconducts tourism activities in the southeastern province of Kilis, Gaziantep and Adıyaman.
