The German National Tourist Board (GNTB) has been certified as a Green Globe company for the seventh year in a row for 2019. In doing so, the GNTB defended its gold status in the Green Globe program.

In 2019, the GNTB has expanded its commitment to sustainability with concrete measures. For employees, the intranet now includes practical information and instructions on sustainability. The ERP system, which is used worldwide and supports the internal workflow through a seamless digital process, increases legal certainty and saves paper.

The GNTB sustainability workshop addressed its members on December 3, 2019 in Frankfurt, Germany. The GNTB supported its worldwide sustainability communication by integrating an interactive map with sustainable accommodation into its online presence. Market-specific campaigns focused on climate-friendly offers, for example the rail campaigns in neighboring countries France, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden and Denmark. In addition, a digital consumer campaign called ‘Feel good’ was launched to present selected sustainable regions, cities and accommodation. The “Tiny little house” that was used in a Europe-wide roadshow about Bauhaus, was created in 3D printing and made of recyclable plastic.

Internationally, the GNTB presented Germany as a travel destination with exemplary sustainable offers at the international conference “Measuring the Sustainability in Tourism – Opportunities and Limitations” in Berlin in April 2019 and at the GSTC Global Conference in the Azores in December 2019.

Petra Hedorfer, CEO of the GNTB, said that their long-standing commitment to sustainability issues has received strong support in 2019 as a result of the social discourse. The gold status in the Green Globe program confirms that them as the GNTB are leading by example when they use sustainability as an anchor in the brand of the travel country Germany.
