Featuring an outstanding lineup of speakers, including government officials, industry leaders, and esteemed scholars such as Raed Abu-Soud, Jordan’s Minister of Water and Irrigation, Fanny Douvere from UNESCO’s World Heritage Marine Programme, Ove Hoegh-Guldberg from the International Panel on Climate Change and the University of Queensland, Philippe Cousteau from EarthEcho International, and many others, the summit promises a comprehensive exploration of critical opportunities and challenges crucial to the sustainability of the region’s marine ecosystems.

Designed to tackle pressing issues, the summit’s agenda covers a wide range of topics, including climate change mitigation, innovative financing, marine conservation, blue economy initiatives, and advancements in ocean-related technologies.

This Middle Eastern edition of the Regional Ocean Summit aims to foster collaboration and innovation, with a specific focus on regional challenges and opportunities. Jordan’s strategic position at the Red Sea’s apex underscores the summit’s significance, providing a unique platform to address the region’s blue economy advancements. Participants can expect engaging discussions, enlightening presentations, and exceptional networking opportunities, all aimed at catalyzing concrete actions for preserving and restoring ocean health in the Middle East.

In partnership with the Aqaba Marine Park (AMP) initiative, the summit is a pioneering effort guided by His Majesty King Abdullah II’s vision, combining an educational aquarium with an applied science and technology hub to address ocean and climate challenges beyond Jordan’s borders, starting with the preservation of coral reefs and marine resources in the Gulf of Aqaba.

Attendees will also have the chance to explore Jordan’s natural and cultural treasures, contributing to conservation and environmental sustainability efforts at world heritage sites. Optional tours will include visits to the Holy Baptism site (Bethany Beyond the Jordan-Al Maghtas), Wadi Rum Protected Area (Valley of the Moon), and the Aqaba Marine Nature Reserve within the Red Sea ecosystem, offering a unique opportunity to engage in conservation and restoration efforts for a harmonious balance with our planet, ensuring unity for future generations.

High-level participants can look forward to insightful discussions, meaningful dialogue and action, hands-on experiences, and cultural immersion, making the Regional Ocean Summit an enriching and unforgettable event.

Reflecting on the significance of hosting such a landmark event in Jordan, His Excellency Mr. Nayef Al Fayez, Chief Commissioner of Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, remarked, “The Regional World Ocean Summit will be an excellent platform to highlight Jordan’s pioneering initiatives that serve as a model for turning challenges into beneficial contributions that extend beyond Jordan’s geographic boundaries and the only sea-window in Aqaba; emphasizing the importance of conservation and sustainable resource management and development for all natural resources to achieve the sustainable development goads and mitigate the climate change effects .”

Building on Jordan’s leading initiatives in the region, which span from preserving coral reefs to promoting sustainable tourism and adopting blue economy strategies, the Regional Ocean Summit will delve into a wide array of crucial topics concerning the marine ecosystem in the area. Through promoting cooperation and exchanging knowledge, the summit seeks to facilitate the development of groundbreaking solutions and concerted efforts to safeguard the enduring well-being and robustness of our oceans.
