To observe the World Tourism Day 2022, the Department of Hotel Management and Tourism, Guru Nanak Dev University, in partnership with the Punjab Tourism, had arranged a heritage walk today. This pleasure trip was particularly organized for the students who are pursuing their Bachelor’s degree in Tourism and Travel Management and Bachelor of Hotel Management and Catering Technology. This amazing walk was a guided tour deep which was arranged inside the narrow lanes of Amritsar, the 400-year-old city.

In this tour, people saw Akharas, Katras, Bungas, Havelis and Hatties, which are exclusive architectural features and have marvelous value in terms of heritage. It took the students back in time as people witnesses town planning, conventional buying and selling and crafts being practiced in the same place and in the same way as was performed for centuries, said Gurvinder Kaur, guide (Punjab Tourism). He had accompanied the students to represent complete information of significant heritage points. The walk covered 3 kms distance and visited city’s 14 particular attractions.

The students witnessed the well-know the old Nanakshahi structures, and its intricate carved wooden facades, the jharokhas and bits and pieces of the original architecture of Amritsar. Students explored the Town Hall, Qila Ahluwalia, Gurudwara Saragarhi, Baba Bohar and numerous other places along with faculty members. Also, they tried their hands on delicious jalebis at the 90-year-old shop at Jalebiwala Chowk that sits on an old well.
