Goa is gearing up to welcome its second international airport. It is named theMopa Airport, and it is expected to become operational from the first of September this year. The Mopa Airport is a greenfield airport in Pernem. It is expected to lessen a substantial amount of the load of air traffic load from the current airport, which is the state’s only airport, i.e. the Dabolim Airport.


The Dabolim Airportis located in a military airbase INSHansa.It is shared by the Indian Navy. The Mopa Airport would be a civilian airport, and it will boost tourism in Goa, catering to civilian traffic in a bulk fashion.

Each year, an excess of eight million domestic and international tourists visit Goa. It is undoubtedly one of the most well-known tourism destinations in India. With the launching of the new civilian airport, Goa is hoping to see an upsurge in the quantity of travelers.

This new airport goes hand-in-hand with all otherprogresses that were taking place in the Goa tourism sector. From helicopter tourism, betterbeach security to ecotourism in the forest regions, Goa has a lot more to offer for tourists. Hence, a new airport is definitely going to prove as a big support!

It would be good to know thatDabolim Airport is situated in South Goa, and Mopa Airport is located in North Goa, which is around 35 kms from Panjim, the capital of Goa. In North Goa, one can see some of the best architecture. For instance, Bom Jesus Basilica, Fort Aguada andChapora Fort, among many others. Places like Chorao Island, Grande Islands, beautifulbeaches like Querim, Vagator,Coco, Baga,Anjuna, Candolimand Calanguteare some of the most well-known tourist hangouts in Goa.
