Goa Chief minister PramodSawant is eager to promote Goa as a sports tourism center. In current times, Goa has effectively hosted numerousglobal sports happeningswith Ironman 70.3 Goa and WTT Star Contender drawing the big names. Goa is preparing to host the National Games in the later part of this year. Its infrastructure will be all set once the multi-sport event comes to an end.
The CM said that they need to create a sports setting in Goa. A lot of people visit the state for tourism purposes. Spiritual tourism is popular is Goa and now is the time to uphold sports tourism too. Sawant said that they are going to promote that. For Ironman, Goawitnessed athletes from around the world. The World table tennis event was also quite popular,luring players from 22 countries.
Sawant said that Goa now has the infrastructure suitable for the National Games. The sports associations or national federations can well utilize themall through the year for their individual events. Goa will be providing their support. The CM said that they need to take sports forward.
The CM had a meeting with an Indian Olympic Association (IOA) delegation comprisingits President PT Usha, KalyanChaubey, who is the joint secretary and temporary CEO, along with Amitabh Sharma,who is the chairman of the games technical conduct committee (GTCC). Considering the infrastructure that has come up in Goa, the awareness of upholding Goa as a tourism spotalso came up during the meeting.
