The Goa tourism department is ready to travel to Frankfurt, Zurich, Paris and Vienna early next year for luring “more responsible tourists” to the state.
Spending Rs 1.7 crore, the Goa government will take part in road shows in major continental European cities after withdrawing from the World Travel Mart in London for the first time in two decades.
A senior tourism department official said that the main aim of these road shows — which will take place in the months of January and February — is Goa’s competing in the international market and uphold itself and India as a secure and top-notch destination for foreign tourists.
The official said that Goa tourism has revised its approach of late toward a more responsible form of tourism corresponding to its Tourism Master Plan and Policy, 2020.
The decision of taking part in roadshows in cities that are not chief sources of tourists is due to Goa tourism minister Rohan Khaunte urging for a “course correction.”
He said that Goa can no longer be under the mistaken belief that it is the only favored tourism destination. The state will look at Poland, South Korea, Japan and the US as new markets. Traditionally, majority of Goa’s foreign tourists visit from Russia and the UK. Khaunte said that the state cannot depend on these two countries only in the current scenario.
