The Tourism Department taking a note of some deceptions in local media has explained on the draft jetty policy asking public with suggestions and objections at the same time to eradicate all misunderstandings, if any. In Goa, themed cruises comprising evening boat cruises are one of the most sought-after tourism related activities that are carried out by making the use of the current tourism jetties that are present in Goa like Panaji’s Santa Monica Jetty, on Mandovi river COP jetty at Panaji, Betim Jetty and Old Goa Jetty.

There are numerous issues in carrying on tourism activities from these existing jetties as on date, which are reviewed as follows: Promotion of unlawful trend of the tout and cash sales leading to revenue leakages to State exchequer; Non-uniform ticket pricing for similar types of tourism related activities; Dearth of essential facilities to the visitors like proper seating, washrooms, waiting rooms, etc. which mostly give them bad experience; On jetties, dearth of safety and surveillance for visitor protection like safety railings, CCTV cameras etc; Tourists protest against cheating and fleecing and bad behavior and service by few operators. To handle the abovementioned issues, under the Chairmanship of Principal Secretary (Tourism), the Jetty Management Committee constituted by the Government vide order no. 3/1102/IDIHHT (2)/2014-DT/P.F./2460 dated 16.12.2016 with Director- Dept. Tourism, MD- GTDC, Captain of Ports, and industry representatives as its members had suggested for authorization of “Jetty Policy” by the Government.
