Canada’s Grand Bend Beach would not be open for this weekend’s official start of summer season even though preparations for reopening are underway. Lambton Shores Mayor Bill Weber recently announced that a number of restaurants and bars under the Lake Huron resort community’s restaurants and bars have been allowed to open their patios but the beach will remain closed for another little longer amount of time.

The popular beach closed down around two months back in light of the coronavirus pandemic. However, but the provincial government finally allowed Sarnia-Lambton to advance to Stage 2 of its reopening plan. Under the rule, beaches that have been closed alongside outdoor splash pads are permitted to reopen as early as Friday. It has also been mentioned that once the beach reopens, visitors have to strictly adhere to physical distancing measures.

Mayor Weber said in a recent press statement the Grand Bend beach is hoping to reopen around Monday, June 22 but it is yet to be finalised as authorities are still preparing things, getting lifeguards in place and certain things are yet to be completely ready. He also mentioned that reopening can be considered as a move forward but hand hygiene and physical distancing would be maintained in order to avoid a move backward.

He shared that the beach is planning for a good soft opening and hoping that everyone respects and abides by the necessary rules so that a good week can be observed. It has also been informed that beaches and other amenities at the nearby Pinery Provincial Park are opening up in time for the weekend. The park has mentioned that it is gradually opening up campgrounds, public washrooms, drinking water and trailer sanitation stations though playgrounds and sports fields continueb to remain closed.
