Greece arranging bill for new health tourism products

Planning and actions required to grow and develop health tourism and set up Greece as a world leader has topped the agenda of the 1st Health Travel Conference that took place earlier May, in Athens.


Arranged by the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine with the help of the tourism and health ministries, Hellenic Chamber of Hotels and diaNEOsis, and the Attica region, the conference primarily aimed on the development of a road map that will help as well as speed up the expansion of wellness and health tourism products in Greece.


While speaking at the conference, health experts said that over 1 billion euros in national resilience and EU funding had by now been protected for the growth and expansion of such products which will feature the launch of a medical visa as well.


In addition, 750 million euros will be utilized behind promotional activities, and fully digitalization of the present infrastructure. Also, the development law of Greece predicts the formation of rehabilitation centers, and as part of unconventional offerings related to tourism, financial support will be assigned to spa tourism and treatment centers as well. Besides, 200 million euros will go toward the development of 15 new centers and the improvement of 15 spa facilities.


Yannis Tountas, while addressing the conference, who is a medical doctor, and a professor at the University of Athens, highlighted to possibility of Greece to become the best health tourism destination.
