Greece is also considered the “cradle of civilization” in most parts of the world. Among the many things Greece is famous for (astrology, philosophy, and medicine); one of the most popular is its history!

The world knows of the rich history and culture that Greece has in abundance. Not only that, but it is also home to inexplicable lovely places that display the Greek history, and oh so beautifully!

The country is a great place for all history lovers wishing to explore the historical and cultural heritage and the state’s antiquities. While there are plenty of ruins and museums in the country, modern Athens is also a great place to see. The city’s famous Acropolis is an absolute must-watch. The Acropolis is where the Athenians performed great sacrifices and fought the greatest battles of ancient times.

From Visiting History to Classical Antiquity

With the Greece borders opening in May for international travel, the country is sure to witness a great footfall of tourists and travellers from around the world. Here are some of the best sites to visit when exploring the history of the state –

The Acropolis

The Acropolis, a world cultural landmark and the symbol of the classical world, is among the most visited places in the world. Its connection to Greek mythology draws visitors from all over the world. It is also a place that inspires the people of Athens to keep on fighting, even when the Acropolis, home of the Parthenon, dates back thousands of years and embodies the country’s rich history. In addition to the Parthenon, the Acropolis is home to temples dedicated to Athena, Apollo, and Hermes.

Ancient Delphi

Located on the slopes of Mount Parnassus, Delphi is among the most interesting historical sites and ancient monuments in Greece. The Ancient Delphi was a large, open-air sanctuary in ancient Greece dedicated to the god Apollo and was located in the heart of the mountains. Additionally, Delphi was home to many city-states of Central Greece that formed political and military associations there. There are several hotspots in Ancient Delphi, including the Temple of Apollo, the Ancient Theatre, the Ancient Stadium, and the Temple of Athena Pronea.

Ancient Epidaurus

Ancient Epidaurus was an ancient Greek and Achaean civilization. It lay between the Peloponnesus and the Aegean and was the seat of a powerful and economically important kingdom. The most famous spot is the temple of Zeus at Epidaurus, although the site is immense. Other notable sites are the temple of Hera and the temple of Apollo.

Ancient Corinth

Ancient Corinth is located approximately 48 miles from Athens and is considered one of the most important cities in Ancient Greece. The reason for the popularity of Ancient Corinth is that it includes several temples and sites of historic importance, such as the Temple of Apollo, the Temple of Octavia, and more. Even though much of the city structure has been destructed by natural disasters, the structure of Corinth remains one of the best attractions in the state.

Medieval Fortress of Nafplion

On top of a big rock above Nafplio stands the Palamidi Fortress, known as the Fortress of Nafplio. Throughout Greece, one can find a variety of medieval castles similar to this one. For centuries, the town has been protected from invasions and wars by this well-preserved wall. Originally built by the Venetians in the 17th century, the Ottomans reinforced Palamidi in the early 19th century.
